We rely on donations . . .

. . . from a broad base of community supporters just like you to keep our community programming efforts going strong.

As we envisioned when we launched Buffalo ReUse in 2006, revenue from The ReSource and Green Demolition provides a significant proportion of the operating revenue for Buffalo ReUse. However, our efforts to support young adults and transform neighborhoods rely mostly on your financial support.

For over two years we’ve bootstrapped new ideas and implemented efforts to improve our neighborhood’s morale through aesthetics and provide meaningful learning opportunities for youth. We now have a solid handle on what can work and what is still needed to expand.

Your financial contribution makes a difference. Between now and The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, January 18, 2010, we’ve set an ambitious goal to raise $12,000 to support our community-focused goals. Funds raised will be committed to the hiring of two full-time AmeriCorps Members who will serve for one year to expand community and educational opportunities. Your contribution enables our programs to serve more individuals in the neighborhood.

You may contribute in any amount. If you give $25 or over, you’ll get one of our 2010 Commemorative Calendars. We also understand money might be tight or you may want to contribute in another way. We value other contributions too - becoming a member, volunteering your time, donating reusable materials, buying materials at our ReSource, helping us with our wish list, donating to our Tool Library, giving us some new ideas, suggestions or words of support. Thank you!

2009 Accomplishments:

  • Provided overall project management and facilitation of the first Green Demolition in ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s five year history. The effort mobilized 150 volunteers and as a result, we were able to dismantle the Powell Family’s 2.5 story, 3,300 square foot house in 15 hours and achieve a 97% material diversion rate (by weight).
  • Streamlined our strategy of Green Demolition to maximize reclamation of materials. To date, we’ve successfully completed over 45 projects, diverting hundreds of tons of material from the landfill.
  • Began a partnership with Kaleida Health to dismantle multiple residential structures on the site of their planned Senior Living Facility in the heart of Buffalo’s downtown medical corridor.
  • Multiplied our relationships with demolition contractors in the City of Buffalo to conduct pre-demolition salvage; this increases our inventory of reclaimed materials; our Salvage truck is running seven days a week.
  • Piloted our ReACT! community partners program, through a partnership with HSBC BANK and Rebuilding Together; mobilizing 65 local HSBC volunteers and a financial investment for east side target neighborhood.
  • Recruited over 600 volunteers throughout the year to work at the ReSource and in the neighborhood.
  • Secured more than 250 volunteers to plant over 700 trees with Re-Tree WNY, increasing the property value of the 30 blocks surrounding The ReSource and contributing to cleaner air and positive neighborhood morale.
  • Collaborated with Grassroots Gardens to reduce blight on over 20 vacant lots across the city. Working under a grant from The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo we were able to facilitate installation of 12 vegetable gardens including a Children’s Vinery, a tree farm, strawberry lots and a blueberry grove.
  • Provided 2,500 hours of Service Learning opportunities and project leadership in the historic Cold Spring and Masten neighborhoods through a partnership with City Honors High School and Senior Class of 2009. Additionally, we provided a supervised work and career development experience for six high school students enrolled in the Buffalo Employment and Training Center Summer Employment Program.
  • Developed our brand in Western New York to expand our customer base and increased weekly sales by 100% since last year at this time, with sales still increasing! The ReSource continues to function as the critical component in achieving financial self-sustainability for our core programs.
  • Enhanced our operating infrastructure and capacity at the ReSource by implementing a point of sale and reporting system; increased available square footage for retail use by nearly 2,000 square feet; the store is now open 6 days a week.
  • Broadened our support base and enlarged our membership from 40 to over 120 members.
