Buffalo First

Buffalo ReUse is a member of Buffalo First, a coalition of 200 individuals, organizations and local independent businesses committed to building a more local, green and fair economy in Buffalo. We believe strongly in supporting local businesses and in building a localized, sustainable economy.

Buffalo First is a member of the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) which has a membership of over 15,000 in 50 networks throughout North America.

Echoing Green

Since 1987, Echoing Green has provided seed funding and support to nearly 450 social entrepreneurs with bold ideas for social change in order to launch groundbreaking organizations around the world.

Echoing Green was essential to Buffalo ReUse’s startup through their award of a Fellowship to Michael Gainer to enable him to fund early startup costs. Aaron Bartley of PUSH Buffalo is also an Echoing Green Fellow.

Empire State Development

Buffalo Reuse has received support from the Empire State Development (ESD) Environmental Investment Fund. Buffalo Reuse is developing new methods for recovering valuable building materials that might otherwise be demolished, and making them available for reuse in the local economy, thereby generating new economic development activity. ESD support has helped Buffalo Reuse test the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of building deconstruction methods so that they can compete with traditional demolition approaches.

ESD offers a range of resources to help businesses transform environmental concerns into market opportunities and competitive advantage. The Environmental Investment Program helps businesses and some not-for-profit organizations with capital investments and research and development projects that improve productivity, competitiveness and environmental performance through increased recycling, pollution prevention, or the development of sustainable products and process technologies.

ESD offers free, confidential assistance to help businesses understand their responsibilities to comply with environmental regulations, and provides a searchable database for recycling market information. For more information contact the ESD Environmental Services Unit at 518/292.5340 or by email at , or visit their website.

Oishei Foundation

The Oishei Foundation, Buffalo’s largest private foundation, is providing generous support to Buffalo ReUse as part of its Stable Neighborhoods program. The goal of the Stable Neighborhoods Program is to promote stable neighborhoods in the Buffalo Niagara region by providing comprehensive, multi-sector support to spur revitalization.

Oishei supports appropriate neighborhood development by:

  • Identifying and replicating effective national neighborhood revitalization models
  • Identifing “pilot” neighborhoods and partners
  • Supporting comprehensive neighborhood revitalization programs/strategies

PUSH Buffalo

People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH) is a grassroots, non-profit community organization working to rebuild the West Side of Buffalo. PUSH organizes residents to confront institutions that perpetuate poverty on the West Side and to create and implement an action plan for improving the neighborhood.

Buffalo ReUse and PUSH Buffalo are aligned philosophically, politically and work together to develop and implement creative solutions to our city’s challenges. PUSH Buffalo served us as a pass-through for grants and tax-deductible contributions during our first year of operation.
