Tool LibraryThe Buffalo ReUse Tool Library represents a joint venture between several grassroots organizations throughout Buffalo who are working together under a small grant from The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo to build a Buffalo Tool Library. Buffalo ReUse, Grassroots Gardens, and PUSH Buffalo all serve populations with limited or fixed incomes, including refugees and the elderly. Currently, this collaboration is building up an inventory of tools to be made available at two satellite locations on both the west and east side of town. We are also working together with block clubs, service agencies and Erie County Recycling to secure used, surplus or unwanted tools. All donated tools are tax deductible in accordance with IRS Section 501c3, charitable organizations. The purpose of the Buffalo Tool Library is to provide an assortment of garden, hand and power tools for residents who have the desire to improve and maintain their homes, gardens, and community but do not have adequate resources to purchase tools of their own. Our organizational model is based on successful tool libraries in other cities, notably the West Philly Tool Library in Philadelphia and the Atlanta Community Tool Bank. We have researched and plan to implement an organizational structure that promotes community involvement and improves the quality of life for our neighbors. Full-time operation of the Buffalo Tool Library will begin early in 2010. Right now, we’re actively seeking donations of new or used tools or equipment. Please see our Wish List below. If you have something to donate, you can bring it to the ReSource during its open hours, email ToolLibrary@buffaloreuse.org or call the Buffalo ReUse office at 716–885–4131. |
